image White County, Illinois is a great place to live, work, play, and worship. Good jobs, good schools, good fun and good people are the reason why. The area was settled in the early 1800ís by settlers putting down stakes on the fertile ground along the Little Wabash River. In the 1850's the arrival of the railroad brought not only new residents, but new businesses as well. In the 1960's the Interstate Highway System was initiated. White County is blessed with Interstate 64 running east and west through the county, providing a major travel route for business. Oil and agriculture continue to be mainstays in the White County system, but underground coal mining has also taken off south of Carmi.

Carmi is a city located in White County, Illinois, along the Little Wabash River. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 5,422. It is the county seat of White County. Carmi is located 50 miles west of Evansville, Indiana.

First Baptist Church is located on 3rd street at the intersection of Oak and Main Street.
